In Lanzarote, the surroundings are never simply a backdrop. The dark volcanic landscape, intense light and distinctive architecture of the island shape the way a home feels.
For Villa Ambiant, a holiday villa where architecture and landscape are carefully woven together, the wellness space had to be part of that same vision.
The owners were therefore not looking for a conventional steam room added to the property afterwards. They wanted an outdoor wellness space that would receive the same level of attention and refinement as the villa itself, without compromising on comfort or visual appeal.
That led them to Thermalux.
For more than fifteen years, we have been developing saunas and steam rooms based on the same belief: wellness does not have to be a separate, purely functional space. It can become an integral part of the architecture.
For Villa Ambiant, the KUUBI from the ALU Collection was selected: an outdoor steam room with an aluminium exterior and a refined interior finish. The KUUBI combines the character of a contemporary architectural object with the comfort of a fully equipped wellness space.
The choice fell on white, in keeping with the architecture of the villa. Inside, the composite interior creates a calm and harmonious finish. On the outside, the matte white aluminium finish complements the solid lines of the residence.
The KUUBI is a distinctive architectural element in the garden. Its sculptural form and refined finish make it a true focal point, while its colour, proportions and materials are carefully aligned with the architecture of the villa and its surroundings.
This creates a natural balance: the outdoor steam room catches the eye through its design, while at the same time feeling like an effortless part of the space.
The mirrored front adds another dimension to the design.
From the outside, the outdoor steam room constantly changes with its surroundings. During the day, the reflective surface captures the intense light and colours of Lanzarote, creating an ongoing dialogue between the KUUBI, the architecture and the volcanic landscape.
As evening approaches, the surface catches the first colours of the sunset, bringing the changing light of the island onto the façade.
From inside, the landscape remains visible. During a hammam session, the surroundings can still be enjoyed, while the reflective exterior provides the desired level of privacy.
The mirrored finish is therefore more than an aesthetic choice. It makes the surroundings part of the design and allows the steam bath to continually respond to the changing light and landscape.
The entire project was coordinated from Belgium.
Through video calls, the different design choices were discussed and aligned with the architecture of Villa Ambiant. Materials and samples were sent from our production facility in Herentals to Lanzarote, allowing the right colours and finishes to be reviewed remotely.
Once approved, the KUUBI was manufactured in Belgium and transported to the island.
A project does not have to be located close to our factory to receive the same level of attention to detail. The design, personalisation and production of our outdoor wellness solutions remain organised under one roof in Herentals, while our projects find their way to destinations around the world.
Villa Ambiant ultimately received more than a steam room.
The KUUBI became an architectural element that changes with the island: an unmistakable presence in the garden, reflective against the landscape and increasingly connected to the colours of the evening.
A sauna or hammam does not need to be hidden away. When form, materials, technology and architecture are considered as one from the very beginning, an outdoor wellness space can become just as much a part of the design as a façade, terrace or interior.
In Lanzarote, that vision found a remarkable setting.
